Hey everyone! It’s Emily the Marketing Intern here at Total Solutions and I wanted to give an update on how my summer has been going and what I am still looking forward to in the upcoming weeks. If you missed my first blog post you can read it here.
I am so grateful to have been given such an amazing internship opportunity. I have been given the chance to work on so many different projects with many of our different clients. I’ve enjoyed being able to apply the knowledge I have learned at Drake so far to help make a difference in many different businesses in the Quad Cities. Working with clients has given me the chance to learn so many different areas of marketing. All our clients have different needs and expectations which makes every day new and exciting.
There are so many aspects of marketing that I’ve had the chance to learn while here at Total Solutions that I haven’t been able to do at Drake. I have created multiple Facebook ad sets as well as worked on Google ads. I’ve also worked on updating websites for not only the Total Solutions site but for our clients as well. This has given me the chance to work on different platforms and learn multiple different ways to develop a website.
I spend a lot of my time working on creating social media graphics for our different clients. I’ve grown up on social media, but I didn’t realize how much more there was to the business side. Having different clients has made me have to learn how to change my design style. All of our clients are using their social media pages to get a different message across, so I always have to be aware of what the message is and be able to accurately get that across in the posts.
Graphic design is not something that I would have said was a strength coming into this internship. It is not a huge focus of the marketing major at Drake, so I had very little experience from my previous classes. This is a skill I have been able to greatly improve over the past few months. I’m constantly learning new skills and gaining a better understanding of the importance a quality graphic can have. I still have a long way to go in terms of design skills, but I am so grateful to have this foundation to build upon.

I learn something new every day at Total Solutions. With our clients consistently growing we are always adapting and learning how to do something new. It has been rewarding to not only grow as an individual this summer but be a part of a team that is constantly growing as well.
I am excited and happy to still be here for a few more weeks. I know there is so much more to learn. I am looking forward to working with our new clients as well as to continue developing relationships with our existing ones. It’s also rewarding to see the impact your work has made, being able to look at analytics for our clients and seeing how the Total Solutions team has helped them grow has been valuable. This upcoming month will be just as great as the last two and I am confident that I am prepared to go into my senior year at Drake and everything that comes after it because of what the Total Solutions team has taught me.
